Families in need can pick up a free 30-pound box of food on Friday, May 15 at one of four locations in Rochester.

The food boxes, along with fresh produce and frozen meat, are available while supplies last at the following sites: the Empowerment Center, Boys and Girls Club, Cook Park and Bear Creek Park. The period for pick-up is 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Upon arriving on-site, organizers ask that you remain in your vehicle. Items will be placed in the trunk or back seat. You will not be asked to show your income.

The initiative is a partnership between Channel One, the City of Rochester, Family Service Rochester and Cradle 2 Career.

In early April, the organizations teamed up to distribute 1,350 30-pound food boxes to local families. Since then, Channel One says the need for food assistance has continued to grow. The food bank said Friday its recent Covid-19 response efforts have raised its budget by approximately $155,00 per month.
