Rochester woman appears on NPR's 'Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me'
“Hi, this is Tracy. I am calling from Rochester, Minnesota.”
Local listeners of NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me were turning up the volume on their radios this morning as a Rochester woman phoned in to participate on the popular public radio program.
“Rochester, I know it well,” said host Peter Sagal.
Tracy (no last name given) identified herself as a medical writer and editor, prompting Sagal to ask how things are going up at the Mayo Clinic.
“They are a little busy right now,” responded Tracy.
Saturday’s program was broadcast from a studio rather than in front of its usual live audience in downtown Chicago due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
During the opening segment, Tracy went on to make Rochester proud by correctly answering all three questions from this week’s news — meaning you may be hearing the voice of Sagal or scorekeeper Bill Kurtis the next time you reach her voicemail (that’s Wait Wait’s top prize for listeners).
For those not familiar with Wait Wait, the show melds humor with news to produce what has become this writer’s favorite radio program.
And while there were plenty of puns and quips this week, Sagal did take a moment before letting Tracy off the phone to offer a sincere: “Thank you for the work you do up there at the Mayo Clinic. It’s important.”
