See what's brewing: A look inside the new Grand Rounds Brewpub
(THE MED CITY BEAT) - Grand Rounds Brewpub is about to breathe new life into a 150-year-old brick building on the corner of Broadway and Historic 3rd Street in downtown Rochester.
The brewpub — Rochester's first in two decades — will open to the pubic Wednesday at 11 a.m. The establishment's located in the former home of Sontes, which closed at the end of last year.
Rochester's last brewpub (a business that brews beer and sells food under the same roof) was Clubhaus Brew Pub, located in what's now McGoon's Pub. It closed shortly before the start of the new millennium.
Grand Rounds will offer four signature beers to start, though head brewer Steve Finnie plans to add a fifth brew to the tap later in the spring.
The menu puts a twist on classic pub fare by mixing in flavors from across the world. The kitchen plans to use local ingredients whenever possible.
Grand Rounds will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The pub will also be open for brunch on Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
A second brewpub, Forager Brewery, will open this summer in the former Good Food Co-op building just north of downtown Rochester.
